Overall | This started out like a women’s fiction sob story about a woman who has been a doormat for 5 years to her boyfriend who ends up getting dumped him when he finally makes it in Hollywood. Then she literally just wanders around and finds an empty bakery store for lease but only decides to get it when a fortuneteller tells her to. And then the building owner gives her a free place to live to. She’s like a helpless loser who’s been waiting tables for 5 years so her boyfriend could like with her rent-free. Instead of feeling sorry for her, I just thought she was pathetic. And then she thinks it’s cute that there’s a homelss dog wandering the storefronts and is happy when he saves her from the bad guys.
Pros | This was a short read – I would’ve DNF’d it but it finished pretty quickly while listening to it on audio
Cons | It takes forever to set up the story and her background. The murder doesn’t happen until alsmot 40% of the way in
Warnings | There’s a lot of racial stereotyping in here with the pizza owners and the Italian mob. Plus the annpying reference to the “asian woman” – her being Asian added nothing to the story and just made it seem like the main character was annoyed that there was anything but white people in the community.
POV | Third Person POV Past Tense
Will I Be Continuing With The Series | No
