Overall | This was such a cute concept and started out super strong – I couldn’t wait to read more but then it just got sort of weird. But I think this is what happens when YA authors write adult romances. There is nothing more skeevy or barfy than having sex in your bedroom right down the hall from your parent. Maybe as a high school kid it’s exciting and racy but as an adult – total ick factor. There was no reason not to go to his house and have sex there. And then they have sex in the laundry room and her mom walks in right after which again – gross.
Pros | Cute concept
Cons | She’s still upset over her fiance cheating on her 5 years ago and there’s no way the entire town would hold a grudge against her. Plus, be an adult and pick up the phone to cancel the wedding vendors on your own if you’re the one that called off the wedding. Her wanting to show off to her ex was again a high school plot so while this was an adult romance, it read and acted like a high school book but I think that’s understandable since this was written by a YA author.
Warnings | Heat Level = 3 and there is a LOT of barfing in this book – the author thought it would be cute to start with a puking scene AND also to end the book with one, too.

Description | Piper Evans: elementary school teacher by day–avid romance reader and anonymous podcaster by night. She has a quiet, reclusive life, taking care of her mother, who lives with mental illness, avoiding her regrettable ex, who bartends in town, and trying to make inroads in the tight-knit island community that still sees her, five years in, as an outsider.
And she’s happy with how things are–really–until British royals rent the property next to hers and their brooding bodyguard decides she’s a security threat. Piper quickly realizes that one person’s fairy tale is an ordinary woman’s nightmare as a media frenzy takes over the island and each run-in with Harrison Cole is hotter and more confusing than the last. But beneath Harrison’s no-nonsense exterior lies a soft heart, one that could tempt a woman who’s sworn off attachments into believing in white knights.
But when Piper finds herself smack in the middle of a royal scandal that rocks the island she’ll need more than Harrison’s strong arms to shield her–she’ll have to do a little rescuing herself. With careers, hearts, and friendships on the line, Piper and Harrison will have to decide what they’re willing to give up for a chance at their own happily ever after.
